Jabari Parker's Parents Not Allowing Coaches To Contact Him Directly

Jun 21, 2012 1:12 AM

Jabari Parker's parents are not permitting college coaches to contact him directly.

“Everybody doing their job, but they still can’t have Jabari’s number,” Sonny said on Tuesday. “That ain’t changed.

“We want him to enjoy being who he is. If he wants to talk, we’ll ask him first. Right now, we don’t want him to be over-bombarded because coaches can sometimes be aggressive, and that can be overwhelming.”

Coaches have been reaching out to Parker’s parents in the last week. Sonny said they’ve heard from Duke, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, among others.

“I talked to (Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski) the other day,” Sonny said. “He wished me a Happy Father’s Day. My voicemail is filled. It’s been filled for a year.”

Izzo Expects NBA Coach To Replace Krzyzewski After London Olympics

Jun 1, 2012 11:31 PM

Tom Izzo expects the USA Basketball committee to opt for an NBA coach to replace Mike Krzyzewski after this summer's Olympics.

"I think they'll go with a pro guy," Izzo said. "I could see a guy like (San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg) Popovich doing it. I really think a guy like Doc Rivers would be a great guy for that.

"There's so many good coaches that deserve a chance to coach."

Izzo likely will receive consideration for the 2016 games.

"I've said this and I mean it: I'd be a water boy on the Olympic team," Izzo said. "It's just one of the dreams I've had. It wasn't to be the head coach, it was to be part of the Olympics.

"If someday I get a chance to be part of it in any way, I'd die to be a part of it. I just think there's something about playing for your country that'd be as special as anything I've done."
